The theme of Hall II is the
living and industry of Jeju Island.
As Jeju Island is surrounded by seas on
all sides, abundant food has been taken
from the seas. Using a raft called taewoo
they caught jaridom, a small kind of snappers
and they used sail boats to catch tail fish
or okdom, (a large kind of snapper). Haenyeo
(women divers) dived into the sea of over
10-15m deep and caught marine products,
demonstrating a tenacious spirit of independent
living.
The hall also exhibits women divers gear
(goggles, spades, spears, shell openers)
and farming tools (boolmi bellows, daengi
plow blades, boseup molds for plow blades),
evoking an image of old Jeju Island.
The wide slopes of Mt. Halla have been
used as ranches since the Goryeo Dynasty.
Jeju's indigenous ponies, strong and mild
in temperament, is used for farming (plowing
and pulling carts) as well as riding.
The hall allows you to have a glimpse of
farming tools, preserving containers and
pounding tools.
